Amazon Speeds Up Same Day Shipping In The US
Amazon recently announced that they have installed “mini-fulfilment centres” closer to where their US customers live. Typically, Amazon’s same-day shipping requires customers to place an order by around noon, and the delivery may not arrive as late as 9 pm. The company has reported that customers in Philadelphia, Phoenix, Orlando, and Dallas, can now place an order as late as 5 pm and still receive their order the same day. Their deliveries are expected to come sooner.
The mini fulfilment centers will allow customers to shop throughout the day, rather than having to hop online in the morning to reserve an afternoon or evening time slot. Good for Prime members, they can order as late as midnight to receive packages on their doorstep by the next morning by choosing the “overnight by 8 am” delivery option. In these cases, drivers will arrive between 4:30 am and 8 am, which is great because packages will arrive before customers have to leave for work.
Like before, only certain items will be stocked in these warehouses. Amazon will stock around 100 000 products and these mini-fulfilment centres are supposed to be about one-tenth the size of a traditional Amazon warehouse. Amazon will add more cities later this year.
The faster same-day shipping option is free to Prime members on orders over $35, or it’s $3 extra for less expensive orders. You can also pay $13 per order if you don’t have a Prime subscription.
This move is meant to help Amazon better compete against rivals like Walmart and Target, both of which leverage their local stores to make online ordering, either pickup or delivery more convenient to customers.
Is Amazon unstoppable? At this point, we all have to agree that the retail-giant is not going to stop anything soon. This year alone seems to be very promising for Amazon customers. Can’t wait to see more of what they have in store for 2020.
