Coronavirus and Amazon: A silver lining for some sellers

Every week reveals more drastic and unprecedented impacts resulting from COVID-19, and brands across the globe are worrying about how coronavirus will impact e-commerce as a whole.

While not all of these impacts have a silver lining, we have seen many companies, including Amazon, react to setbacks with fantastic, innovative solutions. Amazon is presenting some opportunities for both Sellers and Vendors on the Amazon platform.

Since the suspension of FBA shipment creations, Amazon is currently accepting the following categories:

  • Baby
  • Health & Household
  • Beauty & Personal Care (including personal care appliances)
  • Grocery
  • Industrial & Scientific
  • Pet Supplies

As would be expected, we have seen over 100% growth on keyword searches within the categories outlined.

Not all products within these categories qualify as ‘essential’, so ensure you check with support before making any investments into new stock.

Now is the time to start utilizing Amazon Advertising if you aren’t already. Through the use of Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands (for brand registered sellers only), this is a brilliant opportunity to get those ‘new to brand’ purchases and gain ranking against competitors.

Are there opportunities to diversify your offering?

Amazon listing within the non-restricted categories is possible – businesses must be fluid with the changing times. Consider entering new categories to capitalize on increased traffic.

There may be an application to sell; however, you need to follow the standard procedure which requires photos of the product, packaging and the SDS.

It is also vital that we are preparing for life after the virus. Use any newly opened gaps in your schedule to audit your current Amazon presence, both organic and paid.

Lots of FBA sellers are now running out of stock and turning off Amazon campaigns as a result of the new restrictions. Amazon new restrictions have presented an opportunity for those who were once struggling to climb up the nodes and to focus on building a strong Amazon presence that will carry for the years to come.
