One of the top concerns for Amazon is ensuring the health and safety of their employees and getting the products to customers in the safest way possible. Amazon has been providing free masks to customers at all of the open Amazon physical retail stores and Whole Foods Market locations nationwide. They have implemented advanced cleaning processes and ensure that all delivery vehicles and devices, equipment and even physical stores get cleaned and disinfected each day. Customers are no longer required to sign for their delivery as the team will leave the item on their doorstep.
Amazon is also working with foodbanks in 25 different cities, delivering meals to populations that are struggling. The CEO and Founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, has made a donation of 100 million dollars to Feeding America. Laptops are being donated globally to those in need, such as Public School students and high school students across the U.S who do not have access to such devices from their homes. There have even been donations to accelerate COVID-19 research and support those in Europe that have taken the biggest hit due to the crisis.
Helping Small Businesses to Flourish
Amazon sees value in supporting small and medium-sized businesses (SMB), and therefore have invested billions in logistics, tools, services, programs, and people to improve the growth of small businesses. Amazon is working with over 2 million independent sellers, authors, content creators, developers, IT solution providers, and delivery businesses to expand their business and find more customers.
Delivery businesses and Kindle Direct Publishing are two examples of entrepreneurial enterprises that Amazon Web Services has played a significant role in starting and developing. Linehaul service providers is a small business that employs drivers to handle the Amazon deliveries to and from fulfilment centres. Due to Amazon, their business has access to high-class delivery technology, and they get given discounts on leases and insurance for their vehicles. Kindle Direct Publishing is Amazons e-book publishing unit. It is for writers around the world to gain recognition and start up their career as authors.
Project Zero Expansion
With such a rapid growth of brands and businesses on Amazon, there is also the concern for counterfeit goods. Project Zero was launched in 2019 and has recently announced the expansion across 17 stores worldwide. Amazon wants to ensure that brands have their own property and that customers always receive authentic products.
The following implementations are in place to protect brands:
- Brands need to provide trademarks, logos, etc. about themselves so that when the automated protections scan their stores and listing updates, suspected counterfeits can be detected
- Self-service counterfeit removal means that brand owners can remove counterfeit listings themselves
- A unique code gets applied to every product that is manufactured and enrolled. Amazon can scan and prove the authenticity of the brand before the product gets to the customer
It is advisable to enrol in Amazon Project Zero. For your brand to be eligible, the following is required:
- Have an Amazon account with access to Brand registry
- Be the rights owner of the trademark
- Reports of possible infringements must have been submitted in the last 6 months
